Default Anyone else get compliments on their Jag?

I've had mine for more than a year. Love the car. Lately, I have been getting compliments on it. I have come out of the store to have an older gentleman look at the inside. "Beautiful car" he told me.

This morning, getting coffee from the local stop-n-shop, I opened my car door and some guy yelled "Nice car".

I have received more compliments on my Jag than I did my 98 Vette..LOL.

I never thought it was that special of a car, nothing spectacular about it, but it is certainly nice to hear!!

Here in Los Angeles I rarely if ever get verbal compliments from strangers. Don't know why, although glances and stares are common mainly from women. However, in the early 2000's when I still had my '86 XJ6 SIII Vanden Plas, I got compliments all the time from both old and young strangers. Still miss that car sometimes, even if it's a true POS that gives Jaguar a bad name to this day. My current XJ8L has been the most reliable of all the cars I've owned so far (incl. Avalons and Accords). Way to go Jaguar.

Cheers,
Wolfy

In Germany on holiday, we had just finished a trip on the Brohltal Bahn, a preserved railway running up from Brohl-Lutzing on the Rhein up the valley of the river Brohl. (well worth a trip if you're in these parts).

Anyway, we returned to our car and there was a party of about 10 German gentlemen who had travelled on the train, and they were looking at our car with great admiration. When I told them the car was 12 years old they complimented me on its condition. The interior with its ivory leather and birds-eye maple dash drew lots of compliments. "Sehr schoen" and "typische Englische" being said.

This year I have seen many more Jaguars than in previous years. Also lots of Land Rover vehicles such as the Evoque and Discovery. SUVs seem to have taken off in Germany in recent times.

Yes definitely seeing a LOT more LR products in these parts also, I think mainly due to the influx of rich Chinese immigrants. The F-Type and and XF can occasionally be seen, followed by the XJ. The rarest Cat of them all is the XK/XK8.

If we're talking about people's perception, LR's have worse reliability than Jags but people don't care. Why??

Just reminded of an compliment I got at a Shell gas station, from a homeless guy. When he found out I only had credit cards and no cash on me, he took another long look at the car and started railing at me for being a "rich (bas)tard" or something to that effect. That got me thinking... how many stares and glances I got were actually out of disgust rather than admiration?? lol
No matter, I drive what makes me happy, regardless what other people think, positive or negative.

Cheers,
Wolfy

Complements? Haven't had the SV8 that long, but my wife's brother was jealous.

I have often had complements on the Series IIIs, and the E-type gets a lot of thumbs-ups, but my favorite was while bringing home the Daimler Dr450 limo on a trailer and stopping for gas when nearly home and having a woman come screeching to a halt in the gas station, jump out of her car, run over and exclame, "Thats the most beautiful car I have ever seen in my entire life!!!" It is pretty cool in a 40s-50s sort of way, but not in the art-for-your-driveway sort of way that Jaguar Salooons are cool.

I get mostly disgust unfortunately. So far it's usually "it must be nice to afford a Jagwire". When people act like that I don't have the desire to tell them it's the cheapest car I've bought yet and how little it actually cost me.

Ugh.

I seem to get cut off a lot more in the Jag too. My GTO still had it happen from time to time, but I'd open up the tap and give them a scare. That was particularly effective at less than 40mph because the tires would break loose. I'm much more sedate and relaxed with the leaping cat on the hood.

Years ago I read that driving a MK2 was a quaintly satisfying thing, but driving a Series III made you feel like the rich SOB that people would take you for. Once in my 85 Jag Sovereign I had a fellow in an old pickup ask me if it was a new car.

For me, compliments are like badges....I don't need no stinking badges!

Cheers,

Default Think it is the passengers and not the car

When dressed up with driving the Jag; I get lots of comments. Not sure if it us the slick 2006 XJR or me with the flat cap, blue hair, and matching dress.

The comment I appreciated the most was given at the main gate of NAS Miramar. As I drove away the Marine guard at the gate shouted at the top of his lungs: "THAT'S A NICE CAR, SIR!' I think they heard it all over the base. I just waved and drove off with a big smile on my face.

Semper Fi, Marine, where ever you are!

I do this with my Jag and my motorbike, is that vain or what :-)

Anyone else get compliments on their Jag?-001.jpg

But most people ask me about my motorbike as it is relatively rare styling in the US.

Nicse! & I don't see that as vain @all. Me, I see it no different than if you ride by another JAG, or any car you like, you look @it rite?..

The Jaguar is esthically pleasing to the eye as opposed to the mobile jellybeans of the 2000's. Haven't you looked at your car and said: "Gosh that's beautiful!" (and it's mine!")
