Went to start my 2011 XJL last night to come home from dinner and my display wouldn't come to life. No leaper, nothing? Searched the past threads, but I didn't find any similar failures unless I missed them. Anyone had this happen to them? I checked the "IAM Head unit" Fuse, no issue there. Could it just have died with no degradation? Any insight would be appreciated!

 

First there is a "soft" button at the lower left corner of the display try toughing it and it may light up. Try seeing if that brings it back. Next if that didn't work turn off the XJ get out close the door and press the lock button on the door handle 2 times, It should beep 2 times let the XJ sit for about a couple of minutes and then opern the door and the screen should come up with the leaper slowly. that's what fixed mine when the screen goes blank,

 

Thanks for the suggestions, but I didn't have any luck with either the soft button in the lower left or the two button lock. My car only beeps once on the second press of the door lock or key FOB lock button? I have gone ahead and purchased a 2012 display off ebay for $150 which is way cheaper than the $4500.00 that a new one goes for! I figured it's worth a shot and if nothing else it is an upgraded touch screen in case it turns out to be something else?

 

If the dead one is the original 2011 version then you are in for a pleasant surprise after you get the 2012 version in there.

Found a 2012 display on Ebay for $150.00 and put it in today. It works! Not only was it a breeze to install, but it didn't require any programing per se to upgrade to the 2012 display. It looks much better and reacts faster for sure. I'm a little surprised that a car with only 49K on it needed a new screen, but I'm glad it did now! I got a relatively cheap upgrade and a new target for my next day at the range! Many thanks to XDAVE for his thread that deals with display upgrades and the info on which year displays are easily upgraded! Also eewhiz for his video on Youtube which gave me the confidence to remove and replace the display so easily. Got to love this forum!
