Default Aftermarket Wheels - 20 / 21 / 22s ??

Hello All!

I am currently an owner of 2013 XF Black on Black with 20" XO Tokyo wheels on board. Looking to upgrade to the big boys (XJ) in the next month or two. I plan to take possession of the new 2017 XJ (SWB) and head straight to the wheel and tire shop. My dilemma is I do not know what size I should go with. I'm running 255/35/20 and 275/30/20 on my current setup and frankly I would like just a bit more tire. That being said, I am pretty sure that rules out all 22" options.

Would love to see other users pics and details of their wheel / tire setup.
For example, has anyone done 22" and pushed the limits on tire size and found a fitment that works with no rubbing but ride is still comfortable given you're on 22s? How about 21"? This is ideal for me but I can't seem to find a decent tire. I know they will be pricier but it seems they are pricier and the tread wear will be awful too. Lastly, has anyone went with 20" and left the car stock height and was surprised at how good it looked? Or were you disappointed? Yes, I realize 20" comes on some models from the factory but the offsets are not what I am looking for as far as an aggressive enough stance so that's why I'm asking from an aftermarket perspective.

Thanks, everyone!

Each to his own, but you really increase the odds of a bent rim by going above 20" unless they're forged. I've got the OEM 20" Kasugas and there's not a lot of sidewall height for the tire to absorb a pothole. Fortunately, I've never bent a rim, but when I bought the car CPO it had a rim that apparently had been cracked and welded, and the dealer replaced it with a brand new rim.

No complaints about the ride with the 20's and Continental DWS-06 tires.

If you want to change the stance, be aware that doing so could change the suspension geometry and cause issues that might not be covered under the factory warranty. Your car, your choice.

You're gonna love the XJ, particularly if it's the 5.0L SC!

The ride will become like a car with solid rubber tyres. Are you sure you want to loosen the fillings in your teeth ?

its definitely not going to be that bad. Teslas and some Porsches and Im sure others have OEM 21s, and they dont rattle your teeth like a stanced Honda Accord. They are definitley a stiffer ride, but not intolerable. People used to think 20s would ride horribly too.

I havent seen a lot of members with aftermarket wheels, at least in the Owner's Picture thread. The few that do all seem to have 20s.

SInce you want a bit more tire, the OEM 20s are 245/45 and 275/35 i think, so you would get more tire that way, but that being said, it almost looks like too much tire in the front, IMO, but that could just be the look of my tires. 21 does seem like a reasonable size though, particularly if you plan on going with a lip. The cars are big enough that it would still look pretty good.

I've been running 21" Michelin Pilot Super Sports (295/30 rear and 255/35 front), for over a year now. They're the perfect setup for this car - handling is sharper and the ride isn't noticeably harsher. I'd highly recommend them.

KTM, which wheels do you have, and do you have more pictures?

22s would work nicely on a car of this size, im thinking more 21s for myself but its hard to get an idea cuz so many people stay stock.

Honestly, I have no idea what brand wheels they are. I just purchased the car Saturday and the only markings on the wheels is a backwards R next to a P. I would have preferred the stock XJR wheels but don't notice a difference in ride quality compared to the 2014 Portfolio I test drove. Ill take some more pics of the wheels for you today.

I have a set of 2016 xjr wheels I got from LKQ when I bought my new motor. The wrecked diner car only had 4 miles so I bought the engine hood and wheels from the XJR. Currently I have the kasugas and my intention was to swap with the xjr wheels, but I've grown to love the kasugas so I might not swap wheels. If anyone's interested in the xjr wheels they look brand new. From a 2016 and are a dark gray color. Lmk

I'm pretty happy with my wheels as well, 22in. Black wheels are the OEM sets.

I hate to say it, but the car looks better with the black wheels.

I've actually come to the same conclusion after a few months of owning the aftermarket wheels. I've gotten them powder coated to gloss black recently though I like the look of the kasugas a bit more I would admit.

I think the aftermarket wheels would look good in black.

Does anyone have a set of factory 2014 XJR wheels they may be willing to part with?
