Default All-New 2019 XJ will compete with S-Class

Unlike the XK, the XJ has survived the corporate ax (barely) to arrive more luxurious and 'cool' in 2019 --

Article is dated April 2016, so not a new announcement. Jaguar need to ask themselves why the Merc S-Class is so successful in a world currently dominated by SUVs.

That is the sexiest new Jag sedan I've seen since the X350 got canned. I love what they've done to the grill, which is the first time I've ever liked the new grill shape, which has always reminded me of a tunnel. But lowering & elongating it just makes the proportions perfect, to my eye, & suits the lowered profile of the rest of the car. If the build quality is as good as the car deserves, I think The S Class's market dominance will definitely be under threat. I know I want one! & I haven't said that about any Jag sedan for at least a decade.

I think people buy large sedans to have a comfortable ride and the XJ is a bit rough around the edges compared to the big S-Class. Jaguar should relegate 'sport' to the lower models and focus on 'comfort & luxury' for the XJ. Also the XJ interior is unseemly cramped for the segment, less roomy than even the XF.
