Default All-New Electric 2019 Jaguar XJ

Will the next XJ be a Tesla fighter? According to Autocar magazine, the Jaguar XJ will be reinvented as an electric car for its next generation, which will go on sale in 2019 after a launch at the end of 2018, the 50th anniversary of the first XJ.

What will it look like?

To be continued...

If they are dumb enough to have an electric only XJ that will be the beginning of the end of Jaguar I fear. The primary market for the XJ I doubt wants this and I would say 75% plus of the secondary market wouldn't touch and electric XJ with a 10 foot pole.

Now if they want this as an option, that could do ok.

I am about as interested in an all electric XJ as I am in flying to the moon on a skateboard.

It's either 2020 or 2021, JLR is going to have an electric version of every model available, along with petrol versions still being available. In the UK, I've heard they are trying to do away with Diesel, not just for Jaguar Land Rover, but other manufacturers as well. Whether this will actually happen in UK not sure. As for JLR having an electric version available, most likely.....

IMHO if it doesn't growl it's not a Jaguar!

Will the Jaguar XJ Go Electric? - Motor Trend

"Ian Callum told the publication that the XJ should remain the brand’s flagship instead of an SUV. He also noted saloons need a makeover in a new era of electrification and amid the rising popularity of SUVs, without making specific reference to the XJ. Jaguar will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the XJ this year."

Good point on 'The End'. There were many reasons I wanted to be a Jag owner but after the smoke cleared it was the underrated 510hp.

after being known in the 90's for having notorious "electrical problems".........do we really want an all electric jag? haha

i agree, the XJ needs to be a gas guzzling V8 with that loud roar.

Default Gas-electric

I have 2011 XJ SuperSport 510HP 23 miles gal on open road.
I also have 2017 Dodge Durango 360HP . 4x4
I have not taken the time to get a good reading on the Durango but I can tell you right now, The Jag is much better on gas.

I know absolutely nothing about the new Durangos, but I had a 1998 Durango back in the day and the very best mpg I ever got out of it was 13.5 on a 1200 mile trip! It hovered around 10 mpg local running. Very capable vehicle otherwise.

From Houston to New Orleans last weekend and averaging 73mph I got 28MPG non stop with a quarter tank left. Battery powered Jag with a 280 mile range. Hmm.

Its my 'working truck' everyday diving-- Dodge Durango. I am in the country, closest neighbor is a 1/4 mile away - saw mill. Its loaded with all the extraJag has. GPS works great- fast. The gas mileage is the last thing I ask about when buying. I always felt the Jag was good on gas, for how its grouped, the other cars its compared to. Was told its the only one that did not pay the gas tax. Never understood how they got away with that. Are they still?

Default New electric XJ

Sounds like Tata motors wants to get in on the carbon tax trading scam, just like Elon Musk! It would be a HUGE uphill battle for JLR, obviously Quality control takes a back-seat to profit margines! This C-2 concept car was all electric with 1200 HP! Hey, I'll run a turbo audio track to make up for lack of sound as long as it doesn't spend half it's life on the rack!

Whilst the new XJ may be announced as an EV, there will be ICE versions too, but Jaguar are playing this down for the usual PC reasons. It would not sell enough if they just stuck to electric drive.

It's going to be a 'just around town' car much like the Tesla's. NOT any good for someone who's retired and travels 40-50 k miles a year.

I told the dealership guy, If I was a working stiff who has to go to work each day of the week, I might buy one. That would make sense, somewhat.

They aren't keeping the gorgeous, unique taillights? wtf? That makes no sense to me, those things are as distinctive as how Cadillac uses vertical lighting on all their headlamps and taillights or how BMW uses their quad, circular headlamps, etc.

This is such a wonderful Jaguar design I am surprised they aren't sticking it on any of their vehicles.
