Default Any clue what happened?

I did a cold start in the garage put it in drive rolled out to driveway put it in N and sat there for a minute. Shifted to D and drove out to street. Gave it a little gas but wasn't going any where. More gas, no go. the tach is moving so I though I did not have in drive. I looked at the dial and it was in D and the red led light above D was blinking. Back to N waited a minute, back to D, felt the trans engage and all seemed ok. Never happened before or after. What happened?

Michael sorry to hear you are having a problem, but without knowing what you are driving (i.e. make model year engine, etc) and where you live who can make an informed response.

I've had a similar thing happen - if you hold the dial between two positions then after a few seconds the red light above the dial flashes and the car shifts to / stays in neutral. I presume that if the car doesn't know where the dial is set then it just defaults to neutral. I'd guess that either your dial didn't clunk fully into the D notch, or there's a fault brewing with the position feedback.

+1. That's one of my pet peeves, too. While I'm just as paranoid about privacy, not identifying your vehicle details and general location makes absolutely no sense if you really want help from Forum members.

Another example is the X150 Forum member who says he's from Earth. I think he arrived here as an illegal immigrant who escaped from the perpetual darkness of the northern hemisphere of his native planet, upper Uranus. Sadly, he will never see the light.

The best way to do this is to not fully stop before slecting d and the car is still moving backwards. Not everytime, but is the easiest way to have happen what you described.... So dont do that!!
