I have a 2011 XJ. I am able to play music from my iPhone via Bluetooth but I cannot use the Jaguar audio system to select music, it does not display the "Browse" button. The only way I can control music selection is on the iPhone itself. If I plug the iPhone into the USB port it does display the "Browse" button and I can select albums, artists, etc from the screen. My question is, is this correct behavior? It makes no sense to provide Bluetooth streaming but not allow control from the screen.

Thanks for the response. I saw that in the manual, but it is unclear what they actually mean. I was looking for the experiences of others.

 

This is how mine works. Seems normal, at least for Jaguars.

 

I tried this on the way home from work, and that's how mine is too. As JamesTX says it seems to be how it was thrown together (designed).

 

As the owner of a 2008 XKR, tell me more of this music streaming of which you speak.

Go to the X150 Forum and search for ACM - Audio Connectivity Module, a dealer-installed accessory for 2007 and 2008 models to enable iPod connectivity integrated with the touchscreen, which became standard equipment beginning with the 2009 models. That ACM does not include Bluetooth music streaming; only iPod and USB music connectivity. I use my old 5th Gen. iPod Nano in my 2009 XKR for virtually all of my music.

 

This is correct behavior for the majority of streaming devices, it is the equivalent of plugging a headphone cable/Aux In line to your phone.

If you want advanced functionality get a Tune2Air, in my XK that is what we use for my Wife's phone connect to the car. It provides bluetooth streaming along with full wireless Ipod functionality on the screen, pause/play/browse.

If you go this route you would plug the Tune2Air WMA2000 into your USB port in the car, permanently unpair the streaming audio to the Jaguar, then pair the streaming audio to the Tune2Air device. You would leave the Phone portion of your device still paired with the car. This is the way we have my Wife's Iphone setup, works real nice handshaking from phone call with car Bluetooth back to the Tune2Air after call.

If you have a spare 30 pin cable laying around (must be genuine Apple cable, off brands will not work), you can get the less expensive WMA1000.

 

Funny thing about the Tune2Air. I used one in my old XF for several years and was very pleased with its functionality. I installed it in my '11 XJ and I can't get it to work at all. I wish I could get it to work since it does everything I want and the built-in Bluetooth in my Jag is very limited.

 

Definitely a Jaguar quirk. My first '12 xk would not work with tune2air no matter what I did, that car was totaled. The replacement '12 xk it works perfect.

 

From my own testing, the quality of a direct USB connection vs. streaming is night and day. The USB connection is vastly superior in sound quality in my 2011 XJ SC.

 

Bluetooth has multiple profiles. Standard music streaming uses a profile called A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile). The track info and browsing requires AVRCP (Audio/Video Remote Control Profile).

The 2011 XJ only supports A2DP.

 

I've discovered another quirk of the Bluetooth connectivity in my '11 XJ. You can't have the iPhone connected as a phone at the same time as connection for streaming. Every time I try to use the streaming it says it is unable to connect. If I disconnect the phone it will connect for streaming. Anyone else notice this. It doesn't make sense to me.

 

It doesn't do that with mine. Phone and stream connected at the same time.
This was with my iPhone 6 and my new 7.

 

Does anyone know if it is possible to update the Bluetooth to a newer more feature rich version. I have had a 2015 loaner from my dealer and it appears to work the way I would like.
