Default Broken Cubby latch

Today 09:17 AM - permalinkBinderzoo
I have a 2012 Jaguar xjl portfolio with a broken cubby latch on the center console. I am trying to find out how to remove this latch to see if it can be repaired. The big silver button seems to be just fine but the latch inside will not hold the cubby lid closed. If someone had a diagram of the mechanism or information on how to remove the latch I would really appreciate it. Maybe a picture out of a repair manual. My appointment to go in to Jaguar and have them repair it for $200 is April 11th.

To supplement hafren's steps -

When removing the screen surround start prying it from the sides in the middle where the dash leather seam is so you don't mark the leather. Once the middle clips are released you should be able to pull it away enough to pry the top and bottom side clips without damaging the leather, and the bottom two then pull out easily.

The AC control panel needs to come out as shown, and you should disconnect the battery first before unplugging it or you will get a bunch of DTCs stored. You won't get an EML so if having them stored doesn't bother you it is safe to leave the battery connected, but really you shouldn't.

The polished black plastic gear surround, ash tray/coin holder and the big chrome trim all come up as one piece. Note the clip positions in the diagram. Start at the rear where it is plastic on plastic as it is easier to get a pry bar in there, then work forward. For the front clips you should be able to force your fingers under the front edge with the AC panel removed and yank it up. It will remain connected to the wiring, but should 'fold' over out of the way. It is advisable to place a microfibre cloth over the edge you fold it over to prevent the sharp plastic from scratching the leather.

(Note the metal clips easily fall off and go down inside the floor console during removal. Check each trim piece as it is removed to see if any are missing, and if they have not been retained in the mating piece you'll need to disassemble further to retrieve them. If you have a small magnet on a stick it comes it very handy here!)

Check this old eBay link for photos of the button C2D20372 from different angles to see if that may be the part affected. (Note it currently retails for £32.) JAGUAR Genuine OEM BUTTON C2D20372 | eBay

My issue is the spring on the latch has detached, and I don't know how to reattach. Help!
