Default Castrol makes the right oil available

Gentlemen, I thought this reply from Castrol should be of interest since we've all had difficulty in finding the WSS M2c 925A or B Ford Spec oil over the years. This email advises that the 925 spec is discontinued and a replacement backward compatible Castrol oil is now commercially available at retail stores. From: Contactus@BP.com [mailto:contactus@bp.com]

Subject: Re: [#93805] - Castrol Product Inquiry

Thank you for contacting Castrol North America.

The Ford spec WSS-M2C925-A and Ford spec WSS-M2C925-B are covered by Castrol EDGE Professional OE 5W-20 however Castrol EDGE Professional OE 5W-20 has been discontinued as of January 1, 2021.

Most Jaguar and Land Rover retailers have already switched to Castrol EDGE Professional E 0W-20 or Castrol EDGE Professional EC 0W-20 which are both backward compatible to any engine (AJ 126, AJ 133) that required Castrol EDGE Professional OE 5W-20.

Castrol EDGE 0W-20 E or Castrol EDGE 0W-20 EC are also backward compatible to any engine that required Castrol EDGE Professional OE 5W-20 and are available in retail stores.

Please contact Jaguar or Land Rover Customer Care for further assistance. Thank you again for contacting Castrol, we value your patronage!

The new specification has been readily available in the UK from specialist oil distributors for some time. I purchased a case last October. It can come with two different labelling types but both have the JLR logos and specification E C5 0W-20.

I usually buy oil in 4 Litre containers but couldn't find anything other than 1 Litre.

A lot harder to find here OTC in Canada from my experience, and that was why I am thankful I work at a Jag dealer. Bulk Castrol JLR5122 0w20 by the drum!

Alternative is expensive Liqui Moly Special Tec LR 0w20, or Pennzoil Platinum Ultra 0w20 is apparently OK too. Our shop would happily sell bottles of the above mentioned 0w20, but prepare to sacrifice a kidney for an oil change.

Thank goodness we bought our '19 XJ in May last year, so next 5 years' oil changes are included...

...yeah, but really guys - we own Jaguars. Don't we really want to take care of them as they should be to stay in the condition we want and expect them to be in?
I've always done my own repairs & maintenance since before I was old enough to drive legally.
Almost none of us are the sort to waste money - to the contrary most of us save where we can. That's why many of us own slightly used Jaguars that we got for good prices.
But even though we got great vehicles at great bargains, to make the money we spent on them go further, is it really worth it to cut corners on things as important as the oil in the tight-spec, precision engines?

It's up to each of us, but for me - no tycoon bay far- it's well worth taking the Jaguar and Land Rover in for all but the occasional oil change. To buy a great oil oil that I'd feel reasonably comfortable to trust and the Jag oil filter or a Wix or as-good from Rock Auto, the difference in cost plus the time of changing doesn't offset the value of having the dealership look at it, use the right stuff, and answer any complaints I have of how they did it AND the complimentary car wash that comes with it.
For disclosure, I do always look for the dealership's oil change specials though. So the price difference might be like ~$70 or so for me to do it vs. maybe $140 for the dealership. That would matter to me if the service interval were more often or the impact of oil service were not as critical to the engine.
But again - that's for ME; a non-tycoon, self-maintaining, value-oriented guy that just wants what's best for the Jag & LR.
I did send oil samples in to Blackstone Laboratories within the last couple months, and thankfully the Jags analysis was reassuring.

GGG, Castrol North America has pointed out that the Edge Professional E C5 0w-20 shown in your pictures is not available in North America and we should stick with the oil having designations as pointed out in my original post of their communication to me. i.e. Castrol Edge Professional E 0w-20 and EC 0w-20.

In NA, I say if going OTC, just stick to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w20 or Liqui Moly Special Tec LR. They both meet spec. Much easier than trying to find the unobtanium Castrol that meets spec here.

It doesn't matter what I'm looking for, its a waste of time to go to a retail store anymore anyway. Millions of square feet of retail within a couple of miles of me and nobody stocks anything I need or want. Even at the grocery store, if I discover food item that I like, the instant I purchase one for a second time, its like a signal is sent to some buyer somewhere to say, "Oh, that Phil guy likes this so we better quit selling it." I swear if our Jaguars ran on the most common bottled water, you would soon have to order your bottled water over internet just because of me.

This sounds like a bigger problem than finding oil for your XJ....best of luck.

PUP is readily available where I am, as a matter of fact it is going on massive sale at Canadian Tire this Friday. Stocking up.
