Default Dusty interior

I find that within a couple of days of being cleaned, the interior of my '11 XJ is very dusty. Dust on the dash, console, screen and so on. Is it just me or do the interiors of our cars get quite dusty quite quickly?

When was your cabin air filter replaced? Do you drive with your windows or sunroof open? What is your air quality? Where is GTA West - in the desert?

Dust is everywhere and is more visible on dark color surfaces, like the Jet (black) interior of your car. Your problem is not unique to the Jaguar brand. Setting your A/C on recirculate may reduce the dust since you're not bringing in as much outside air that is loaded with dust and pollen.

Good question on the cabin air filter - I do not know but will certainly find out. GTA west is Toronto, so this time of year, windows and sunroof very tightly closed!

I use micro fiber cloths from Costco for all the surfaces and a natural boars bristle 1" wide paint brush for all the creases and don't use any "sprays" at all. As for glass I use Invisible Glass with the micro fiber cloths (one to clean and then a dry one to "polish"). When the leather needs cleaning I use Connolly Leather Cleaner.

I keep a black microfiber cloth in the passenger door storage - can't even tell it's there. It gets a pretty good workout regularly on the dust and like you no sprays.

I'm going to start keeping a microfiber cloth in the door as you do so thanks for this idea.

I use the same "California Duster" I use on the exterior on the interior and follow-up with a microfiber cloth on the chrome trim. Takes about thirty seconds total.

Do you mean you use the exact same one as on the exterior? Aren't you concerned about the dirt transferring off the duster onto the interior? And, don't these have an oil of some sort on them that could mess up the interior?

The exact same one. A brand new California Duster might leave oily streaks on both the exterior and interior; that is why you spread a new one on layers on newspaper or paper toweling to absorb any excess oil.
The peculiar thing is that the longer use use the duster, the better it works.
And no, it doesn't leave dust behind, on either the exterior or interior surfaces.
Just remember, it is a duster, not something that should be used to clean off splashed dirt or salt spray. Give it a try, it is much more efficient than trying to pick up dust with a dry microfiber towel, or trying to brush it away. You need something that grabs the dust and takes it away.
