Default Full Service History - not worth a damn

I have a 2010 XJ with a full service history, the book is stamped and all main dealer ....

And it isn't worth a turd - no way has this car been maintained to a standard I expect of Jaguar - Jaguar is fortunate I don't know the full history of what the previous owner permitted or didn't. The car is also saying the last oil change was 14,000 miles ago ... neglect of the worst kind.

This is an example - these images are of the cabin filter - one is new and one came from a 'full service history' car. Do yourselves a favour and stop putting any faith in service histories or dealers to do an adequate job - if this is what £200 an hour buys you I'll stick to DIY.

I get that the "book" is not much of a history. I think it is dependent on the quality of the dealer, but also the quality of the owner.

My 2011 I acquired a couple years ago was always serviced at the same dealer. That book never got touched, but the car got all the attention it deserved, probably because the owner was a car enthusiast and had the financial means to keep it properly maintained. The print out of the history that the dealer provided is very thorough. So far I have only changed the oil twice and driven 15K miles without issue. Car almost has 30K on it now.

Good luck with your restoration. Hope it all plays out in your favor.

I like to use the activated carbon cabin filters. I little more money but I think a better product too.
Yes the cabin filters are an often forgotten item. Even worse is I have found cars with factory installed cabin filters even though the service records show it being changed multiple times. Usually you can find a printed date and brand somewhere on the filter.

That's exactly what I've installed. The brand of the filter was Jaguar - can't recall anything else and it is now in the trash - I 'may' go look but then again ....

One of the reasons I went exploring was because the air delivery was appalling but fine on recirc, it is amazing the difference this filter makes, I had planned to change it anyhow though hence my having one to hand, I installed a Mahle activated carbon.
