My Jaguar XJL came with this decorative start button (which I believe is stuck over the original button). I am afraid to use force and totally destroy the start button underneath so any suggestions on how to remove it?
Run a dental floss through the gap where the decorative button sticks. Note: Do not use any heat source like heat gun or hair dryer as it "may" damage the dashboard

They may have done that to cover a cracked stock button too?
Hopefully you can get all the glue off the face of the one underneath. Otherwise you may need to replace the entire push button switch.
Sometimes it's better not see what's underneath!

Good thinking- very possible since the start buttons can crack/break easily over 10+ years for some reason.
The start button assembly comes out of the mounting hole pretty easy though, which makes for an easy replacement.
You just have to pry it out between the leather and the chrome (plastic) surround of the switch, or maybe with the dental floss around the chrome surround. It comes out pretty easy.
And whether or not the button underneath is cracked, I can't imagine the growler would come off without damaging it and that's assuming it's not part of a decorative aftermarket replacement button.
Fortunately replacement starter button/switches are available from Rock Auto, and they're not too expensive. That's where we got a replacement when ours cracked.

You were absolutely right! I used dental floss to take off the sticker behind the metal ring and it took some force to get it off! Indeed, the original button has a nasty gash and this decorative Jaguar head was used to cover it up. I've found new OEM Ignition Switch being sold on eBay so I might go for that.
