Hello Stuart. I too have experienced the same issue, especially after the car has sat for an extended period of time. The reading is NOT always accurate. I do find that if the car is driven and rechecked I get a full reading after sitting for a bit.
Thank you for the confirmation.

On dipsticks you'll find that is the case too. Cold =3/4 full and warmed up and off for ten minutes will show a bit more. What happens if this digital system breaks? How do you check the level then?

I suppose we resort to one of two options.
1: dealer time
2: dealer time

LOL. It just seems so silly if car manufacturers do this to save on production cost. How much could a tube with a dipstick possibly cost to put on an engine?

2014 XJL with 33k miles. If I am correct, this oil level is telling me, my car burned or consumed half of it's oil since my last oil change . last oil changed done as recommended by Jaguar, 15k miles or one year. Mines was done 11k miles, eleven months ago. Will do an oil change this week. Is it normal for the engine to burn oil at only 33k miles ??? I just need to remind myself " My Jag is a beautiful car " :-).

On the XF and the F-Type the difference between Max and Min on the gauge is only around half a litre which is nowhere near half the sump capacity (7.25 litres on the 5.0 V8) and I'm fairly confident the same would apply to the XJ.
If so that reading shows the oil level is down about 250 ml from "full" so nothing to worry about and nothing unusual or bad about losing that much oil in 11k miles.

That's interesting but I thought it was a liter between the 2 red marks?
Does Jaguar list this somewhere?

I plan to do my own oil change next week. I will measure how much oil I am able to extract using the oil pump method

This works like a charm. Thank to you all for helping.

1. Open the Hood

2. Get in the car with the key-fob and close the doors

3. Push start button without touching the brake

4. Let all the electronics settle down and then use the Menu/OK button on the left side of the steering wheel...navigate around until you get the "Vehicle Information" screen..
5. Select "Oil Level"..If it says "information not available"...Press the cruise control "CANcel" button twice..the Oil Level will then be displayed.
great info thanks

Default low oil indicator

The scale on the low oil indicator is for one quart, based on my experience. If the indicator shows 1/2 down, try adding 1/2 quart. Should be spot on after that. If you put too much in, no worries. Attach a hand pump to the small tube in the center of the oil add location under the hood and suck out the excess. I love this 2013 XJL for not having to jack it up to change the oil.
