Default Maserati Quattroporte 2014 or Jaguar XJ?

I am looking for some advice on the following. I am in the market for a new car and am considering the new jaguar xj supercharged or the new maserati quattroporte. The latter is more pricey, but beyond that, what are the main pros and cons of each car?

I am aware of the one review by autocar.

Welcome to the forum MTH,

I've moved your question from Jaguar Forums Advice / Feedback & Suggestion Center section to the X351 section. I must warn you that opinion here on which to choose could be slightly biased.

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST section and post some info about yourself and future Jaguar model for all members to see. in return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

This being a Jaguar forum, most will favor the Xj.

What's important to you? Electronics? Looks? Performance?

Drive them both, see what you like

The Maserati is a lovely looking car and reasonably well built , and now it has a "normal" automatic gearbox, is reputed to be good to drive. However bear in mind these cars are only sold in penny packets, so service and factory backup may not be all that good. Having said that the dealers tend to be enthusiastic types. They do cost a lot more than the equivalent Jaguar.

Of the Jaguar, what can one say, except that it's a Jaguar ! There are now very few remaining issues with this car, and they are not serious. Tata Motors have done a lot with Jaguar since they took over the company from Ford, and are spending hundreds of millions here in the UK to improve production facilities and bring out new models.

paraphrasing a friend of mine...

"Maserati - Ferrari maintenance costs, with the cachet of a Chrysler"

You can go back (search) this very forum for a video on an expert road test that compared the two models. I posted it some time ago. Basically it concluded that the XJL was the better choice.

As I have an Italian wife, I have to tread carefully, but I will say this: -

If it was a choice between Ferrari and Maserati, I would buy the Maserati, as it is much more discrete than the "in-your-face" Ferrari. However, if it was Jaguar XJ v Maserati, it would have to be the Jaguar. Hereabouts I do see a few Masers, as we live in MUFC footballer territory, but they mostly buy Ferraris. It was only a few miles away that David Beckham got hammered for speeding in his Ferrari. I'll bet the chap in the Maserati just slipped past un-noticed !
