Default MPH Limitation

I have a 2016 XJL with a 3.0 gas engine. I’ve read where the car is limited to around 120 MPH here in the states. For curiosity purposes, does anyone know how fast the car could go if not for the limiter? Thanks.

In the UK and Europe the 3.0 supercharged is good for just over 160mph.

I have an XJL 3.0 twin turbo Diesel, good for 0 to 60 in 6 seconds and although it is limited to 155mph I did see a you tube clip of the guy taking it to 168mph.
I have seen 150 on mine several times and still power to spare. ( On a private road of course )

XJsss, but the 155 mph is computer limited (the same limitation is on the NA 5.0L and SC 5.0L unless you get the limit upped to 186 mph for the SC equipped cars, but even the 186 mph is computer limited). The car can actually go faster which is what I believe the original poster wanted to know. 340 hp should be good enough to get the person just over 160 mph as the first responder noted. I know it takes around 400 hp to get up to 200 mph. So, scaling it back some, a 160-170 mph drag limited top speed would be in the ballpark.

ON a side note, I thought I had also read that in the US , the V6 XJ's are computer limited to 120 mph. Not sure why, but I remember it being less than the 5.0L cars.

One possible reason is to not exceed the speed rating of the tires fitted by the factory.

Thermo, you are correct US V6s being limited to 121mph, and that all XJs in the US have their top speed limited. The supercharged XJs are limited to 155mph and XJRs are limited to 174mph. An interesting note is that 2013 to 2015 XJs fitted with the Speed Package were limited to 174mph. At that time the factory seemed to be saying that the front splitter and rear spoiler added more stability to the car. That said, then the XJ R-Sport models should be stable at the 155-160 speeds as they are similarly aero equipped, So it appears to be all hype and could, also, be as Stuart says tire dependent..
