My bad day
The XJ and I did not have a good day. I was on the expressway and got a '2 wheel drive only' warning message along with a 'blind spot failure message'. The steering assist felt kinda heavy so I guessed there was an intermittent speed sensor fault of some sort. All three are speed input related. Once off the expressway and at a stop light, I decided to powercycle the car to see if the codes would go away. This is where it got bad. When I tried to restart the car, I got 'smart key not found'. After fiddling with holding the key near the RFID area for 20min or so I called a tow. While waiting for the truck, I wondered how do I get this out of PARK? My first google search said there was a disconnect in the center console. Using the swiss army knife from the glovebox I was able to pop the pen holder holder out. No disconnect! A second Google search this time revealed the disconnect was under the hood and I needed a special tool from the trunk. The trunk will not open since the smart key is not found! At this time the tow truck arrived. We used needle nose plyers to pull the cable end and get it out of park. One guy held the cable pulled while the other pulled the car onto the flatbed....the third steered! My wife brought over the second key to the dealership. That one was not recognized either!
Something failed and it's going to cost me!
Anyone have a similar experience? Any idea how to get in the trunk? Of course my work computer and wallet are in there! Oddly the radio and the hazards work so that is nice. Oh...and it was raining the whole time and the window is not closed completely.

Yes I saw the AWD cars have a MUCH different setup to put the car in neutral (N)!
This video points out the difference and I see why you or anybody else knew where it was!
It shows the normal XJ at the beginning so watch the whole thing to see how the AWD differs.
Did you find the special tool afterwards? I would at least make sure it was present.

Perfect! Looks quick to do. I'll see if the dealer know that trick....I have my doubts. Probably cheaper to get it towed back home, release the trunk as shown above, then reprogram the keys.

Please check all the fuses before bigger moves, like reprogramming keys. The keys do not be lost from the vehicle memory, no matter what. They are saved on keymodule what are not erased without factory tool. Main fusebox are in central junction box behind of rear seat armrest. There are another box in trunk and 3rd one under hood.

Today the dealer called saying Fedex lost the BCM in transit and a new one would need to be ordered. ETA end of July! I quickly located one (C2D44310) on ebay for $100 vs. $1700 new and it could arrive in 4 days. The dealer said it had to come from Jaguar and a used one could not be reprogrammed. I assume they are full of it. I think there are options in SSD for this. What do you think? Should I get it towed out of there?

Do you have a working SDD?
People have posted that you can put used modules in and tell SDD that it's a new one so it's completely programmed to the car but that is farther than I have gone in my SDD adventures!

Yes...I have a working SDD copy. I have edited the CCF in engineering mode and done regular error codes but have not reprogrammed module yet. I would think it would be fine. I have a good power supply.
They are saying for some modules, once assigned to a vehicle it cannot be changed. This sounds like BS to me. Does anyone have experience associating the BCM. P/N is C2D44310.
Thanks
