You can have a local machine shop examine the head and determine if the tappet bore can be repaired. Have you removed the rest of the valves and examined the seats and guides?
Bear in mind if the valve guides are worn, there are no internal service parts available for the AJ133 from JLR.
Why do people think the head will be warped? It didn't overheat. I don't get it. Anyway, that head is repairable, probably just with a Dremel, the piston is fine and you need new later style chain guides with the steel insert. Should be a cheap fix if the head is OK on the combustion chamber side, you don't show that in the photos.. I don't think you can use new buckets with an old cam, maybe you can get a used one, I have a few.
Mine was a little worse.......

Thanks for the info. My only real concern is that at the bottom where the spring sits there is now a hole. Here is a close up. Also here is a picture of the other side of the head. Nothing wrong with it that I can see.
It's a 12 xjl 5.0 supercharged. The cam is removed and it is on the exhaust side. This is a pick with the cap over the spring removed (it disintegrated). Tbe spring is out as will. This is from the top side of the head. Valve is bent and that's the only thing that stopped it from falling in the cylinder. I will take a pick with the cap removed from the other valve next to it.
What did you use to add the picture?
Just taking a WAG, but that void in the spring seat may have made the spring unstable. It would be interesting to see what the valve stem shear marks looked like.

[QUOTE=clubairth1;2306826]Not that I can remember and I have been here over 10 years.
I have never seen that type of void and spring failure on anything ever.
So I think it was a manufacturing defect and is very rare.
Or I sure hope it is!!
It looks like the spring punched a hole through the valve spring seat.
I've seen a spring fail and the valve stem be intact.
I've seen a valve fail, head popped off, and spring was intact.
I've seen a valve fail at the "keepers" and the spring was intact.
But I've never seen a valve fail, apparently at the "keepers", and the spring disintegrate.

Correct me please if I'm wrong but it has to be ahead from a supercharged 5.0 correct? I can see the cam is different for sure. From my searches they specify with and without.
That's what I thought. If anyone sees a good deal on a used supercharged driver side head let me know. I still am going to bring it to a machine shop and see how much it will cost to repair.
