Default Parts backed up. Question on any recourse.

Got into an accident... long story short... drivers seat cover had to be replaced. My car has been 'done' minus the seat cover for almost a month. Every week the shop is told, 'it'll ship on this day'.. that was 16 days ago. I have been without my car for two months. Ran out of rental coverage, are double paying for my car and a rental at this point. It is what it is. I am not upset, just curious if there is anything Jaguar does in instances like this. I find it impossible to believe there isn't a black seat cover anywhere in the country/world that can be used - just getting a little frustrated is all.

Any thoughts?

I am assuming that your repairer has flagged the order as VOR (vehicle off road) with Jaguar, which will place you at the front of the queue. If not, get it done. Jaguar can provide fairly accurate estimates for delivery of parts if under a couople of weeks, but after that it will be vague. If you are being told "any day now" then I would check if Jaguar are providing that information, or your repairer. If Jaguar then get a complaint escalated to corporate because that is not on.

However as you have found trim pieces like seat covers are never held in stock unless there are some left over from a production change, so are always made to order at the end of the queue after the line orders are made.

It is very frustrating, particularly when it costs you money for each day you wait, but Jaguar care little about the problem. I hope it is quicker to arrive in your instance, but I have waited over 6 months for VOR parts before for a vehicle that was less than 2 years old.

New2Jag, I guess your other option is that if the shop is going to replace the seat cover anyways, why not ask them to let you have the car back and then you can toss a seat cover on the seat until the new leather shows up. Not like the seat cover is going to "hurt" the seat any more than what it currently is from a repair standpoint.

Even if you get a high end seat cover and it costs you say $200, that buys how many days of a rental car? A week, maybe. I think in the long run, you will be better off money wise.

What's the nature of the damage to the original cover?

The local automotive upholstery shop can probably find matching leather and make up a new cover or sew in repair sections.

Cheers

I might be wrong, but aren't there side airbags mounted in the side of the front seats? If so, it would rule out seat covers or having an upholstery place make a new cover.
