Default "Service Required" Reset

I changed the oil but the "Service Required" light still comes on after I start but then goes off . Is this normal?
How do I reset the computer?
I tried a method I found using the rear light switch and trip button but it doesn't work.
The car is a 2013 XJ

Thanks
Eric

Eric,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X351 forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

Requires a special module/computer to reset. No button combo will reset it.

Icamiel, I don't know about XJ, but I had other car have that sensor, I think that sensor just a reminder to change the oil, just like the other low fluid warning lights, after filled up or service the light is gone, it normal for it to came on a few seconds because the sensor is not register the new oil.

Hi All

Regards to using the foxtell nt510 for Service light reset, I came across an eBayer in the UK who suggested to buy a obd2 with software to use on the laptop. Apparantly it's very good as it does many vehicles including jag xj x351

Ukobdtool.com/cdp/cdp.htm

Anyone ever used it?

I don't see anywhere that it says it has the software functionality to reset X351 service required indicator. I went the Foxwell route because the manufacturer verified that it would do the reset, AND it was shipped from US, so it was easily returnable (at no charge to me) if it didn't work. Most of these types of adapters I saw were shipped from Honk Kong, and YOU had to pay to ship it back to them if it did not work. The whole prospect of using software that needs a codebreaker to install that may of may not work seems a bit more hassle than it is worth. I'll be interested to hear if it works.

Early X351s had no driver reset procedure and require a software reset, but a driver reset was added with (or part way through) the 2014MY.

If you are going to be servicing these cars yourself you really should invest in a dongle to let you use an old unlocked version of SDD from an old laptop. It will be beneficial for this, but also for future diagnostics and updates. The newer diagnostic software could be used if you pay the TOPIx fee to access it.
