Default Smart keys died

Hi I have a new to me 2013 xj awd. The smart keys (both my main and the backup stopped working simultaneously. No low battery warnings. I replaced both batteries with new duracells and still get the smart key not found message. It's like the car doesn't recognize them any more. Has that happened to anyone else?

now it won't start either. i've been able to start the engine fine for a few days by holding the fob on the dash below the trunk release button, and now that doesn't work either. Have an appointment with dealer friday, but need to have it towed there tomorrow...

what a crazy thing!

Ok, i feel a little silly replying to my own posts. But dealer confirmed its the keyless entry control module, he said it was "Frozen" and wouldn't respond to reboot/battery disconnect.

They ordered a new one, and will replace it under the CPO warrantee. In the meantime i have to use the dash-press method.

Glad it's under warranty.
