Default Sunroof switch

A great big hello to everyone.

I've lurked around the forum abit in the past to make sure there are no large problems before buying this lovely car!

I recently became the proud proud owner of a 2011 XJL Portfolio and it is a lovely lovely car.

The roof creaks and pops abit but I can live with that. More worried about potholes bending those 20" kasuga wheels here in Malaysia.

The XJL comes with with a glass roof for the front and the rear with its own individual electronically retractable shade.

I sometimes drive with the front shade open so some sunlight comes in and keeps me awake in the day.

Around a week ago, when I tried to close the shade, there would be a loud whirring groaning noise, like the motor is moving but gears were grinding.

Anyway I took the car to the shop and they took apart the whole roof lining to have a look. Seems some railing or parts were broken.

They've replaced it and all is good now however they now tell me the switch isn't working.

Meaning when they put it back together, the switch does not function and nothing happens when you press it.

I was wondering if the car needs resetting of some sort? Sorta like windows that need recoding or door locks that need resetting when the battery is disconnected?

Thanks so much for the help in advance. Much appreciated as I can't take the car to Jaguar as it is a private import and they won't touch cars not imported by them..

Thanks a lot once again!

Thanks so much for that quick response mate!

Much appreciated. Will give the shop a call tomorrow and relay these instructions.

For my car, when they put it back together, the sun blind switch was working but it suddenly stopped working.

This is the sun shade switch and not the sunroof. Sunroof is still dismantled and not installed into car. Would it make a difference?

As when they put it together to test, the sun blind worked but stopped working after one or two tries.

Perhaps wise to install back the sunroof and resync entire system?

Thanks once again in advance for all the help. It is much much appreciated!

Thanks so much for the swift response. Much appreciated.

From what I gather,

When they fixed the sun shade, they gave the switch a go and it worked. But after 2-3 tries, it stopped working.

Now the sunroof is still not assembled onto the car though so perhaps they need to put the sunroof back and give the resync a go?

Could it be that the sunroof is not fixed into the car hence the sunshade switch is now not functioning as well?

Thanks again!

Problem sorted. Seems the roof needs to be connected for it to work as highlighted. After assembling entire assembly together, resync the system by holding button, it now works.

Thanks again in advance for all the good advice! I have some plans for the car and would love to share it alongside experience informations shortly.

Thanks once again
