I own a 2015 XF that has been well maintained. 2 previous owners, first being a lease, second owner did not own it very long. I've had some naysayers, and even got told by some guy to sell it, buy a Lexus, and to thank him later.

I'm well aware of the service costs being a bit costly, but am hoping the reliability isn't as bad as some people seem to make it out to be.

 

You really would be better off asking XF owners instead of XJ owners.

Perhaps one of the moderators will move the thread. 2012 at 48K miles, two water pumps (we know to just plan on a water pump every 25K), a track rod and both front window actuators. Key fobs get to be a pain when they wear out. Compared to the 2000 XJ8 which was a rock up until about 90K, then it pretty much fell apart over the next 30K as every piece of plastic, rubber or vinyl had decomposed by 17 years old. Looking forward to replacing all of the PA66 Nylon components in the cooling system at 70K as ten years is about the max lifespan of the material. Read these forums religiously and follow the advice to proactively do recommended maintenance like that before things break and you'll have no major problems. Its the average consumer who treats his thoroughbred like a pack mule who winds up stranded on the trail.

 

I've had 2 XF's....one in 2009 (3 year lease) and a 2012 XFR that I had for about 4 years.

The first XF held up pretty well over the 3 years. no mechanical issues, no electrical issues (with the exception of the overhead touch sensitive console). the leather dash did start to bubble a little.
the XFR started to show its age towards the end of my ownership (which at that point had been its 7th year in existence)....and reached 68k miles. The dash started coming apart. the leather started cracking, the wood panels all had cracks in them. the timing chain started making noise. the diff was leaking. coolant expansion tank broke.

 

I had an XF for 4 years. It had 194,000 miles on it when it got totalled in a crash. But up to that point, was running like a well-oiled sewing machine!
