Default un-reliable blind spot monitor system

Been enjoying my xj for about 3 months now.. there are things that I love about the car(which is 90% of the time) and some I really don't..

One thing that I have notice is how bad the blind spot system is... passenger side is ok but the driver side misses enough for me to not trust the system. Granted I always check my blind spot w turning my head, it still gets annoying whenever I see a car right next to me when the mirror says everything is all good.

I can understand it if it was a cheap car but in a xj? Does anybody have this problem? or is it just me.. (maybe a bad sensor? dirty lens? where is the sensor even located?)

Oh, and plz dont tell me to adjust the mirror to the outside so I can see the blind spot, as I like to see the edge of my door cause this helps spot lane splitting motorcycles much easier/further, especially during traffic hours. (Motorcycles can lane split in Cali)

gochurush, the blind spot monitor sensor is located on the rear bumper (behind the cover), about a foot in from the corner. so, if the car is along side you, yes, the sensor may not pick it up as it is looking a bit behind the car, not directly beside it.

That's right, the Jag system is truelly a "blind spot" monitor. Some manufacturers make theirs more of a safe to change lanes monitor (which I prefer). But in your car, if you can see the vehicle next to you it is not in your blind spot and the symbol will not illuminate.

meant = turn my head, see a car next to me, look at my mirror, no light illuminated...
