Why does the backup camera suck?

Part of the issue is that the camera is located extremely low on these cars (do to the cosmetics of the rear and desire for a low "lift over ledge" for the trunk / boot).
So in addition to the low resolution aspect (true!) the camera is additionally prone to getting dirt on the lens and this does not help matters.
Overall the technology components of these cars are behind mainstream competition by a good number of years (or generations). Navigation, blind spot monitoring, lane assist, active radar, Apple / Android "car play", park assist, even my Bluetooth connectivity is sketchy.
A Hyundai has better technology by a mile....
But that's not the point....
You buy these cars for the excitement they provide when driving them!
They might be "a little old school" but to me - I get over it and smile anyway.
