Default x351 Service Required tool

Hello,

Finally decided to let go of my cherished X350 XJR and picked up a 2012 XJ Supecharged. So far, the car is all I hoped it would be. I do most of my own service, and know that resetting the "Service Required" indicator is something not done by button presses or anything. I have searched the forums for information on what tools others have bought to reset the indicator, but have not seen any report back what has worked. Any makes/models/sources/procedures are appreciated.

On a 2012 as you've found you need to reset it via diagnostics. I can't comment on which tools to use, other than SDD with any supported dongle should be able to do it and would be useful for future diagnosis.

Worth noting in case this thread comes up on a future search, X351s from VIN V58603 (UK-built) and J76000 (India-built) can be reset in the normal way common to all current models. That is:

1) Ignition on (not engine started)
2) Open the hood (you only need to pull the level so it is ajar)
3) Open the driver door
4) Fully depress both the gas and brake pedals and hold down for 10 seconds
5) Turn ignition off

Thumbs up Meter to reset "Service Required".

After determining there is no way to do it manually, and not wanting to go to the dealer, I found and answer. Foxwell makes a model NT510 that has LR/Jag specific software. Seems to do many powertrain, chassis, ABS etc., AND was able to reset the SR message. I bought a "Certified" car that is fully serviced, but the dealer neglected to reset. Knowing I will do my own maintenance, I now know I can do the reset, too.
