Default 1996 Daimler Double Six heating

Hi all,

I have a 1996 Daimler Double Six that seems to be the gift that keeps on giving. Every time I fix a problem a new one appears.

the heating has stopped working. Fans and blowers working fine but no hot air comes out. I’m looking for easy fixes before I take the plunge and lob more money into her.

Thanks for looking

G’day Tom,

I had the same problem with my car not long after I bought it and the problem was a blocked heater matrix. I replaced it and all was good.

You can check whether you have good flow through the matrix by feeling the inlet and outlet pipes on the firewall, both should be hot if you have good coolant flow.

Cheers,
Jeff

Jeff that’s brilliant thank you.

Had nothing but problems with the coolant/heating. I’m not mechanically minded but I’m hoping to learn with the Daimler.

Had a pipe blow on rad. Sensor saying I have low coolant which went away when I let the pressure out the cap. And now the heating has stopped.

If I hadn’t fell in love with the car she’d be gone.

G’day Tom,

I feel the same way about my car, it’s a keeper despite the problems with owning a 25 year old car.

Changing the heater matrix in our RHD cars isn’t so hard, the glovebox has to come out for access but then it’s straight forward. I can talk you through it and show you some pix if you need me to.

Cheers,
Jeff.

Hi Tom, I replied in your JEC thread that it could well be the heater pump/solenoid value, but reading here that the heat stopped when you released pressure, it is possible you have an air lock in the system.

Hi

cheers for the response.

Iv had problems with the cooling/heating in the car since Iv bought it. But it seemed to sort itself out.

previous problems include pipe blowing off the rad, over heating, and general cooling problems.

Im taking her in to have a full coolant flush next week, but in the mean time is there any way to release the air from the system.

This system, once filled correctly is self bleeding, but to get to that point is need a lot of running with the header cap removed. Here is the page from the manual.
