'95 XJ12 or '96 XJ12?
Hello
found two XJ12
1995 with 51k miles but immaculate engine and tranny well maintained but need 1 k of body work( damaged fender) 6k
OR
1996
80 K mile immaculate engine and tranny well-maintained 4K
Which one would you go for?
Same color
Thanks
I like the 96 but it has 80K versus the 95 51k
Thanks
Terry

Both are allot of car for the money. A person might go with the best interior, or which ever one has the best service history documentation. Personally, I'd go with the '96... I know big surprise. It's hard to pass on 51k, but it's easy to pass on body work. Or buy them both
Tough call.
If the body repair is *verifiably* just $1000 it must be very minor damage....as $1000 doesn't go very far on body repairs. So, for me, minor body would be no big deal. The '95 is probably a short wheelbase car which I prefer.
Cheers

The 96 has a new tranny new alternator new steering rack
but ABS light comes up
and the p.s is leaking
white with perfect interior
Not sure is the 95 is a short or long wheelbase but its looks like a long one
new aluminum radiator new tires new hoses and coolant new steering rack
the quarter panel needs to be fixed most likely can be pulled, and repainted
front and rear bumper have few scratches and need to be repainted
the leather is off white in really good condition though a bit dry so will need to be treated

You can see the extra length in the rear doors....but you might need both cars side by side to notice the extra 3-4". Or browse some pics on the internet. Once you've seen it, though, you'll recognize it in an instant. I like the slightly shorter look...but the extra length is nice for rear seat passengers.
I'm pretty sure all of the '95 USA-market cars were SWB and most of the '96 were LWB
The gold trim is a dealer add-on

All 96's in the USA are long wheel base. An additional 5" in length and another inch in roof height. Power steering will leak on all XJ's sooner or later. Mostly it will be the lines.

I was about to purchase this car but due to my working schedule won't be able to commit. It looks like a nice car and the seller is a true gentleman.

I also have a 96 xj12 and looking to sell it only problem is it needs the belts replaced but I'm not sure of the diagram and cannot find it anywhere. I was told that it has 4 belts on it. Please help with this I'm totally lost
My 1995 XJ12 has three belts. One large 7 ribbed belt for the A/C compressor and the power steering pump and two smaller belts, one for the alternator and the other for the air pump and the water pump.
Cheers,
Jeff.

Hmmm must be a difference between 95 and 96.
I would have thought they would be the same.
Maybe a difference in markets?
I went off memory when I posted so I just double checked and yep only 2.

Joe, this XJ12 section has a topic all about belts on the second page here. Take a look and then you won't be totally lost.
That alternator belt is sneaky, lurking completely out of sight from the top of the engine. My guess is that Joe's belts (in particular the alternator belt) may be screeching and we know what that means!

We are talking to ourselves. Back on topic...
I see most 96s have the bench seat in back, with the 95s having whats more like bucket seats with center cubby box. Why? Same with the Vanden Plas. Were rear bucket seats a factory option for the 96? I prefer the rear bucket seats but you can't find many of them with the 96 LWB. Mr. 1of19, would you happen to have one of those? Value added perhaps.

The design of the rear seats changed for MY97. Oddly when they say MY97 it can refer to a lot of cars made in 96, need to check the VIN numbers to be sure.
