Default ABS sensors

Are the ABS sensors on a 1996 xj12 the same as the ones fitted to the xj6 for that year? My parts supplier is showing the abs sensors for the xj12 as the much lower priced ones that jaguar fitted to the xj8 models rather than the quite expensive ones I had to put on my 1996 xj6 last year. The difference is 4 times the price so i want to be sure to buy the proper part.

The hubs and ABS sensors on the XJ12 are the same as the XJ6. The XJ8 type will not fit quite right, but can be modified to fit if you are changing them out yourself. Parts suppliers are often wrong when it comes to the XJ12.

I have not done this sensor fit mod so am not so familiar with it. But there are recent threads on the topic in the X300 section.

I may be wrong, but I think late versions from MY97 had XJ8 hubs as standard. It could all come down to your VIN number, it seems to have changed from VIN 801672.

all 300 body styles from late 1996 to the beginning of 1998 have holes drilled for both styles of ABS sensors. if you want to use the later sensor you'll have to either find the correct link harness or splice the sensor-side connector from an XJ8 harness. if you don't have both holes just glue it on and the corrosion will lock it in place

Default Abs sensors

Thx guys. Is thete any particular way to remove these sensors without damaging them? They look straight forward but a year ago when i was having my pinion bearing replaced on my xj6 vdp, the mechanic broke both of the rear sensors removing them. This is where i learned they are $1000.00 each approx.

I believe that the Audi A4 ones (once a washer has been added) are interchangeable, and a lot less than $1000!
