Checking out a 96, a few problems with it
I'm looking at getting a daily driver, and always wanted a nice newer bodystyle Jag. I found a local'ish 96 with 160k. He says it needs an alternator, possibly a starter as it likes to stick from time to time, and some minor electrical issues. The wiper and hazard lights turn themselves on now and then.
Are these common to the 95-97 Jags? I tinkered with an 83 for a little while a couple of years ago but I know they're totally different from this body style.

Were you talking about an XJ12 or an XJ6? Either way, I wouldnt commit until at least you've seen and driven the car. 160k is not bad in itself, but if the car wasn't cared for it will show many many problems. If the body, paint, leather and tires are decent, that's a good start. Service history is a big plus if you can get some. And if theres a check engine light you will want to know what codes are showing.
Alternator and starter can go out at this age, but beginning with such troubles is not too pleasant!
Thats My 2¢.

Starter replacement on a V12 is no pleasure cruise
From a distance it's impossibe to say how problematic the electric issues might be. Some are easier to track down and repair than others.
The problem with these older Jags, too often, is that the low market value makes people reluctant to keep up on repairs and servicing. The fix-it list keeps growing but the owner stopped spending money years ago. Be careful!
