Recently I've had an intermittent problem with the radio not working along with the door unlock function when opening the driver's door.

I figure a broken or breaking wire somewhere. I wonder if someone has an idea about where to start looking. I've had one broken wire in the steering column where the harness flexes. I've tried to duplicate the non-working situation by operating both the reach and tilt functions but that did not trigger anything.

Been driving Jags since 1982.

Both issues happening in conjunction or could they possibly be not related? Dailey driver or does she sit a couple days here and there? I have had Jag radios work yesterday but not today then couple days later working again. Eventually they all end up not working or can't shut off or can't turn up or down. Common faults with these radio's. I have had southern electronics refurbish three of mine at $250.00 flat rate per unit. Comes back like new with 12 month warranty on entire radio not just what was repaired. I have sent them missing knobs, broken screens and locked up radio's they all came back perfect. Locks sound like a battery to me if it is only an occasional problem. If you don't have a battery tender hard wired into your car you must do so and use it. So many weird chase your tail issues could be avoided if all jag owners would just use a battery tender daily.

 

Many thanks for your help. The latest with my problem(s) is that one day recently the radio worked but the driver's door lock would not so they must be separate problems. Also, at the same time I was able to make the door lock fault begin working again when I moved the telescoping steering column as close to the dash as it would go. I then took some covers off and around the steering column and inspected the wiring. Found no problem but it works better now.

The car is a semi-daily driver. I bought it new in 1995 and it now has 225K miles on it. Runs great.
