When I got my 96 XJ12 home after purchasing it, I watch a video on YOUTUBE on how to set up the key fobs. I did exactly what the guy in the video did and both of the worked fine. When wife uses that car two weeks later and now I cannot set the key fobs and the trunk lid light stays on. The manaul states to take it to the dealer but I am sure one of you folks knows how to fix this.

My wife told me that she thought that my Jag key fob worked like my Hyundai Genesis key fob. My daughter told me that my wife was button mashing the key fob the day that it stopped working properly. Any suggestions with be greatly appreciated.

 

Your in the wrong forum for a start but if the fobs are anything like the XK / XKR they are prone to button failure. There are threads on here of owners opening them up and cleaning the contact surfaces and coating them with lead from a pencil. If nothing else it's worth a try.

Any progress with the key fob mystery?

The key fob programming depends upon the trunk latch. Sounds strange, but its true. If the trunk latch switch failed or broke, the light could stay on, and it might prevent programming of the fobs.

My XJ12 occasionally (like presently) ignores the key fobs. Reprogramming them is necessary, and no big deal.

Glad to see a new XJ12 owner come along; we are rare!
