MNA3980BC ps hose
Engine bay on the RH side was a big crusty mess. No rust but dust and sand mixed with oil. It was a good rust prevention method though.

Alternator was badly effected and the clean-up also revealed a cracked starter motor core. As you will probably know from experience you’ll run into much needed parts which are NLA or extremely expensive. An ac condensor for instance or, in this case, a power steering hose, MNA3980BC, which I believed to be the cause of an oil leak. I suspected it to be the power steering oil leaking from that hose down onto the alternator which in turn swirled it around the rh side of the engine bay.
A rubber hose which runs from the reservoir to the pump was needed. Around $320 or £230 in the UK.

In real life it looks like the picture below, there is a protection/insulation sleeve missing here.

Instead of going the hose bending route as described in a youtube instructions video posted by Oliver Marks (unobtanium hoses) I bought myself one of these for around €35 together with a 16mm brass hose connector.

I cut of the long end from one side just next to the 90 degree elbow and connected it to the other end by means of the brass connector. Finally it needed to be shortened about an inch to fit correctly.

As a thorough investigation could not be performed when everything was still dirty, I now believe it was not the rubber hose that was leaking but the power steering pump itself. That means the whole thing can be taken apart again. Loving it!

Just to clarify, I have this seal kit but it’s still in the box and not on the car! Link is here:
