I am looking at an 06 Super V8. It's at a non-jag dealer. Everything looks good, except for the grille. It's not mesh. I thought all Super V8s had mesh grilles. The grille on it has "fluted" top edge like VandenPlas models from the 98-03 era and it has horizontal bars. I checked the VIN, it checks out as a Super V8. Crawled all over the front end for any bodyshop evidence, I have not found anything for sure, I am not am expert, but know more than an "average Joe". This different grille has me concerned. Were there any other options on Super V8s? Thinking about taking it to a bodyshop for an inspection.

It could have been swapped out on another car. Many times a dealer will exchange parts if the customer will buy it only if it has certain features and the dealers will do some parts swapping to get that current customer what they want.

 

The grille you are referring to is for a Daimler, I installed them on my 2005 Super 8 as well. It is a nice subtle touch. They are straight bolt on parts. If you buy the car & want the original parts I will give you a good deal.

 

Where can you get the daimler grill? Does it have the rear piece on the trunk too?

 

I think this is what nick is referring to. This is a Daimler Super 8. My guese is that you will have to special order the grilles and the trunk moulding. Mechanically the same as the Jaguar Super V8 LWB with just some trim upgrades. Since Daimlers were never intended for the US market an actual Daimler might have difficulty getting registered unless it has the Federal emissions and safety tags.

 

Guys, thanks for your responses. It would make sense that the previous owner changed over to a Daimler grille. Actually, that sounds like a neat project to change out the grille and the trunk trim to that. Sure would be different. Add Daimler badges and the Huh?WTF? looks will never stop.

Here is a picture of waht the grille looks like. it kinda is like a daimler grille, but still a little different. I am going in for a serious sitdown conversation with the dealer this afternoon. If things work out, I sure look forward to getting out of an 03 E-Class benz. It's a nice car, but i never could get comfortable in it. Seats really suck. When I started looking at XJs again after a few year break, the 1st one i sat in, i did not want to get out of it... it was such a relief getting back into a jag.

LOL thats the Daimler grill with XJ8 L grill inserts kinda looks funny, once u get the car just replace the inserts with XJR ones and it will look awesome!

 

Well, i missed out on that one, it was sold 30 minutes before i went back to the dealer. i called them an hour prior to that and told them that I was on the way.... oh, well, the search continues
