1 week of x350 ownership, highs/lows, thank yous :)
Hi,
Just thought i'd share my experience of owning my XJ8 for just over a week, its been a bumpy ride!
Ive owned jags since i was 21, now 25. This is my other Jag, S-type, 3.0 V6, running on LPG

I decided to go for an x350, 3.5 v8, 2003. Will upload pics soon.
Picked it up fairly cheap, because it had a few issues, so the fun began!
1. drove 2 miles to a petrol station to add coolant, my brother slammed the bonnet shut, and we set off 200miles home, as soonas we pulled out of the petrol station ..... restricted performance/air suspension fault!!!
waited five minutes and restricted performance cleared and i drove home fine. air suspension fault still showing! Next day, went to my freind garage and got it scanned, came up with an air leak after the MAF sensor, i realised that slamming the bonnet had some how broke the seal between the intake pipe and little breather box. Duck taped and both faults disappreared!!
Ordered new pipe for £50 from jag, and all was good!
2. Heaters wouldnt blow! after reading up of this and the UK forum, i diagnosed is at the heater resistor. Got my garage friend to take it out, ordered the relevant transistor and thermal fuse, got them soldered in and it was working!! total cost £20 (fan only work on full speed, but i have heating, think i still need a new heater resistor)
3. Sat Nav said no disc, so i randomly thought i'd press eject, and a CD came out! cleaned the disc and it started working
ordered lastest version and updated.
4. Previous owner told me the rear screens weren't working. i dont thinkhe discovered the arm rest control panel! i tried it and dvd worked absolutely fine. Also found jag headphones and a harry potter dvd in the dvd player :S
5. Mirror wouldnt fold, found a thread on the forum on how they can become stuck, so i gently folded then, spraying WD40, and they started to work as well!!
Intended Mods:
Front lower mesh grill, HID lights, 19" alloys from my S-type or some 20" sepangs if i can find some.
Just want to say a big thank you to all you guys on the forum, read through many posts and have been a massive help!

Your S-type looks lovely !
Yes, these X350s are not fault free, but pretty nice cars all the same. Apart from the air springs the suspension is virtually the same as the S-type.
I don't know if you like a hard ride, but 20" Sepangs will make the ride much harsher.

Great story-you did your homework and now it is paying off since you have a Jag for not a lot of money and all problems solved!
Helps to have a tame mechanic too.
I don't know why you have only high speed fan?
My original transistor was toshiba 2SK2313 and was replaced with
part no 541 1714 (RS I think it was)
New part from Jag is 100GBP!
BTW is that vinyl wrap on the S Type?

You've still got the S-Type. I didn't think there'd be two with that very distinctive colour scheme.
It's certainly been an eventful week with the X350. Good to hear you've found useful information here to help troubleshoot it.

Can't give my thumbs up on the gold top-side, but the XJ's 19-inch Custom style wheels look great on the s-type, good choice. If the gold were white, that would be a stunning vehicle. But no pic of the recovering x350?
