My A/C/heater fan quit on my '04 XJ8 too. The dealer replaced the Resistor Module. It's located under the dash to the left of and behind the glove box. The gove box has to be removed to access the resister. It's got a group of 8 aluminum cooling finns on a black plastic base and is held in place with two screws. Once the screws are removed, it just unplugs. Be careful to release the "snaps" (that hold the electrical plug to the module where it is plugged in) before you try to pull out the electrical plug. The resistor module cost me $350.00 plus $160.00 for diagnosis and another $160.00 installation labor for a grand total of $670.00 ! Ouch! I suspect that the resistor might be available at an auto parts store. To indentify the resistor, the measurements are: 3 1/4 inches long, 2 inches wide and 2 1/2 inches overall height. The 8 aluminum finns (which are included in the above dimensions) are 1 1/8 inches tall by 2 3/16 inches long.
