2004 XJ8 Stereo
I got a Jag XJ8 2004 about 4 months ago. Stereo buttons didn't work at that point. It just played a cd that was already in it. The only thing I could do was adjust the volume. I swapped out the stereo for a used one and encountered the exact same issue. Is there some kind of reset that I need to do to be able to use the radio (i.e. a theft protector) or is this a wiring issue. I think I can safely eliminate a stereo issue. Thanks. doug
As I understand it there is a code for the radio that comes with the car as an anti-theft measure so that if a radio is ever stolen or removed from a car it must be re-installed and the code re-entered before it will work. I don't know if that's your problem but if you got any of the original documentation that came with the car when new look for a separate audio/entertainment users manual and hope the original card with the code is in there.
You'll need a code for the used one for sure as without it you have a DOA unit on your hands.

Worse case, IF you really do need it, the dealer can provide the code with your VIN; I've had my battery disconnected, and the head unit pulled from the car to get the ACM installed, and all I was forced to deal with were reprogramming memory functions and the station presets (as well as that goofy RBDS function that comes on as a default)
Hi latham.
Try this; If the radio is the factory original just press A.Mem, >> and PTY at the same time for the code to reset.
I did this on mine once and it did work.
Hope that helps.
