2004 XJR with P0171, P0172, and P0332
Hi,I'm considering purchasing a 2004 XJR with 120,000 miles that needs some work. The car is currently throwing three codes, P0171, P0172, and P0332 stemming from mice that chewed through wiring in the engine bay. Some of the damaged wires have already been repaired to get the car running, though it remains in restricted mode until the remaining three codes are resolved.
I'm reasonably capable when it comes to DIY repairs. I've owned a 2004 VDP for seven years and handled all the maintenance and fixes myself. That said, I've never owned an XJR before, and I understand the supercharged models come with a steeper complexity curve compared to the naturally aspirated versions. The car I am considering has the black and red interior, which isn't really my style, but it's something I could live with.
Price is still unknown, but I won't move forward unless it comes in quite low. I'm just curious whether you think this is a worthwhile project to take on.
Thanks, -mo

I’ve put over $10k in the last couple months into my 2004 jaguar xj8 redid the entire suspension, brakes, new continental tires, all new steering(this weekend installing a steering shaft) new drive belt kit, cooler lines, all new LED bulbs, these cars are definitely worth it they drive incredibly smooth and are really quiet even at 75-80mph you can whisper too your passengers hardly any noise or vibrations make it into the cabin there also really safe due too there aluminum Monique design. Yes it is definitely worth it too fix it especially an XJR it won’t be cheap tho and expect for there too be a lot of things wrong with it my car only had 99k miles and was maintained by the previous owner quiet well and still needed a lot of work. They never rust other then the steel subframes and the exhaust so it should in theory outlive you.
main things too look out for are the rear control arms there only one reputable company that sells the lower control arms and there $700 a piece. If you blow an airstrut you can buy a set off eBay for $600 but if you wanna keep ECATs your gonna have too cough up a pretty penny and pay almost $6k for bilstein air struts. This has been my experience with my jaguar your mileage may vary but these are awesome cars and I constantly get looks while driving it. It definitely beats a car payment
