2005 x350 v6
Hi everyone could someone show me how to change my spark plugs and what sort do I use and how long do they last my jag has only done 66000 and I think it could do with a new set regards Graham
Spark plug change is every 70k miles on the 3 litre V6 petrol. I don't know the grade of sparkplug, but you do have to remove the inlet manifold to get at the plugs on one of the cylinder banks, so possibly need a new inlet manifold gasket.
You could check the S-Type forum for this. It used the same V6 engine in the same orientation as the XJ X350. Also, you could check the X-Type forum, but keep in mind that the engine is transverse-mounted in that application
I have just done mine and once the upper inlet manifold is removed it was a breeze. While its in pieces i can recommend replacing any rubber seals and o rings around the brake booster hose, imt valves etc. They get hard over time causing P0171 and P0174 vac leak/lean running codes.
Tricky jobs i encountered while doing mine:
You may need a wiper arm puller to remove the wipers as the windscreen scuttle panel has to come off, or in my case i could only wedge it upwards for clearance.
I had one of my inlet manifold bolts ferrules spin while being removed (common occurance).
Take your time, make sure you don't need the car the next day and as others have said, research the job first.
