Default X358 Diagnosis Behavior

Bought an x358 recently, MY 2009, 4.2 N/A, very fine ride with no issues. Since 2013 i own a XK8 and therefore i'm a bit familiar with IDS/SDD.
SDD is installed on a Thinkpad under XP, interface is a Mongoose china clone.

As usual i tried scanning the XJ and as usual battery voltage is above 12.5 V and a charger is connected. While the diagnosis is running i face the following behavior:
the tank gauge drops to zero about two times and audible and visible low fuel warning occurs. In addition to that the radio is switched on and off about 5 -6 times.i tried another Mongoose cable and a Rotunda VCM with no significant changes in behavior.

Maybe someone with an X358 here is able to confirm that this is NOT an usual effect or an intended ping test while the diagnosis scan runs? Any suggestions?

Thanks and regards, Fritz

That's normal behavior as SDD scans your vehicle looking at the various modules and systems.

Hi Joe,

thanks for your confirmation. Couldn't believe it because it does not make sense to switch just the fuel gauge and the radio a few times on and off.

Last time I connected up to my Jag it did something very similar, random noises and the radio came on and played static at me!

You might almost think no-one designed the car with sane diagnostics in mind from day 1.

When I flashed my transmission recently everything electrical seemed to come on at some stage with beeping and headlights on all the time as well.

One reason why a battery back up is required if it lasts a while.

Thanks guys, i'm convinced now that the effects are “normal“ instead of strange failures .
In the meanwile i tried a hard reset and after that the radio switch on and off behavior is gone......
