Hi All,
I had a mechanic replace the air compressor piston ring, and not long after the compressor started constantly coming on, it also developed a loud vibration when running.
I managed to get the car up on a hoist and found one of the mounting nuts was loose. I tightened it up and the vibration went away. However, after removing the compressor today myself to take a look at why it is constantly coming on, I noticed things don't seem correct with the mounting system and I'm unsure how to assemble it again. It appears mounting parts are missing from previous jobs. I only have 5 metal bushes, 2 springs and 1 rubber bush. The workshop manual shows there should be 6 metal bushes, 3 springs and 3 rubber bushes.
I don't want to install it just to find it starts vibrating again, I would rather do the job properly the first time. Any help would be much appreciated.
A quick update. I've had to install the existing parts back as they were previously, after installing a new piston ring. After getting the compressor installed and the nuts back on, I went to torq the nuts down to 15ft-lb and one of the threaded studs on the mounting bracket snapped , so now I need a new bracket, as the compressor is vibrating like mad. I could probably cut the stud and add washers to reduce the vibration, but I still wouldn't have the rubber bush or one of the metal bush on that stud, as it is shortened too much. I'll have to redo the entire job now, what a PITA!!
On the bright side, the air suspension fault light on the dash has decided to disappear . One step forward, 2 steps back.
