Hey guys,

I've got a 2007 XJ8L and the airbag light goes on and off intermittently. Is there anything i can do about this? Is it dangerous to drive with an airbag failure light on ( I'm assuming so?).

Any insight on this problem would be helpful.

Does it do it with no one in the passenger seat? I assume you mean the air bag lite on that side of the cabin? If so you likely have an issue.

If it only does it with the passenger seat occupied, it is supposed to. The system dis-arms the air bag if the passenger occupant is too close to the dash.

No, the light displayed is in the actual instrument cluster.

I had the same issue on my 2006 XJ8L. I believe the dealer service department replaced the airbag cancellation module.

I have a 2006 XJ8 L. My service tech told me it was a 500 -600 air bag sensor fix inside steering column. When the light is on their is no regulation to airbag deployment speed and the max is only used. If accident happens at slower speed bag still goes at fastest speed.

Haven't done service yet - hey everyone I am interested in your opinions.

Any codes showing? I had this problem on my 02 XJ8 and ended up having to pay the dealer $135 to read the Jaguar-specific codes. Turns out it was a bad clockspring that I replaced myself. I am not familiar with the module mentioned: probably a feature on the models newer than mine.

You American guys really need to do more googling on these topics. The air bag light doesn't usually flash at random and there is no need for garage equipment to read an airbag fault code.

As a guess, I would imagine that the light might flash once, then pause, then flash nine times. Followed by a longer pause and repeat. After flashing the "code" 19 three times, the light stays on.

If the code is indeed 19, then the clock spring needs either cleaning or replacing. One of these in the UK is GBP100. It takes about twenty minutes to replace it yourself.

Hey slim, a flash code 19, can be numerious things, and not just a "cancellation control module" fault. Matter fact there was a TSB out from 7 years ago, listing all the fault codes in the airbag system including flash codes. And flash code 19 deals with the whole "driver side" airbag system. Yes chances are the cancellation control module is bad, but I've seen flash code 19 faults before for bad wiring, airbag faults, driver seat issues, etc....The airbag will cycle the flash the flash code like you discribed and then stay on solid after a few cycles.

I'm sure he didn't mean anything derogatory by that. No need to start throwing history lessons around.

As for the googling of the air bag codes, there is quite a bit of information on the web relating to the s-type and earlier X308 models, but nothing much, if at all on the x350, and we've had the 'model specific' codes drilled into our skulls from some of the misinformation posted around here.

My next question, seriously, was going to ask for the repeating code sequence from the OP. But, I didn't, since I was unaware of the code list being available on the forums for this series.

Someone should do a DIY 'clock spring' replacement thread, if it is really a 20-minute job, and w/o it many would believe such a task would either be unsafe or unsure of the details necessary....the great unknown.

Clock spring aka, cancelation module, aka steering column cassette reel, aka as of now air bag sensor???that advisor spreak for its's something like that but i dont really know what it is. Or i just think ill talk over your head cause again "i dont know what im talking about"
if your diy'ing. 98% of the time its the cassette.
It wont be covered under select edition or extended warranty companies as they dont cover srs(supplemental restaint system) but if your horn work(wink wink) doesnt work, theyll cover that................ and its the same part to replace. Its not hard and all you need is a torx bit for the air bag and 4 bolts in the cassette, oh and a socket for the steering wheel

Please let me assure you that I am not critisizing any of my American friends! For a start your country's manufacturered cars are many times more reliable than British ones (eg. Caddy vs Jag)...

I simply meant that on the uk Jag forum, the air bag "code" 19 topic has been discussed many times. I must admit that the search facility is rubbish (garbage?), though.

I can recommend that if you are searching for fixes that you havent seen on this US forum, try Google-ing a string such as

I think this is for Xtype's however, but probably similar for our cars.

I used to have it flashing, but never thought to check if it was a code, and I took it in and they fixed it under warranty. It's now doing it again, but only when it's hot outside, and it seems to be flashing "22", which means Driver's side airbag circuit fault.

Btw, I don't know if you can see the link if you're not registered on that site.

Have an '07 3.0L V-6 cyl S-Type & airbag light stays on or flashes. Had a low impact collision (no damage) with another bumper just prior to this, but dealer service doesn't think this is cause. Car is under warranty, but don't know if this is covered. Does anyone know worst case costs if I have to pay? Thanks, Katz

The flashes indicate the error code and the error code indicates the cause of the fault and maybe the solution. Read the forum posts on Air Bag codes and you shall have you answer...

My mechanic said it is the clock spring and it was a $500 repair - parts and labor. Seemed high to me.

I had a code 1-9 (wihch started this thread, I think) "clock spring". I fixed it in 20 minutes at no cost..!

Hey Chris, why not post a "how to" for this if you've already done it?
