My '09 VDP has had an engine whirring sound for a while now. I changed the belt tensioners, but still whines. Could it be the alternator? I checked the battery under load and it reads around 14.

Could use a hand on this.

Check the idler pulley bearing.

 

+1 on that.

Easier than it sounds tho.

I ended up replacing all my pulleys except the super charger pulley.

Also replaced the alternator due to a separate issue and went thru several so called "compatible" alternators before I got one that worked without the alternator light coming on.

A local shop, 50 miles away, could not repair my alternator or rather refused to after they said they could no the phone.

 

Brushes are mostly what wear out on these alternators, change them at 100,000 miles or so.
Used ones from wrecked cars are cheap.

 

Yes, I replaced that with the belt tensioner.

 

I just looked briefly online and couldn't locate brushes. I'll look further.

What about the whirring sound? Would this be the alternator bearing? (pulley)
