What are these elasticated straps for?

 

As far as I remember, one of them is to take a First Aid Kit. Not sure about the other, smaller, one.

 

I've seen new vehicles with a complimentary bottle of Jaguar leather cleaner there next to the First Aid Kit. I first recall the strap on XJ40 which required HMSO and serious damage would occur if ordinary brake fluid was used. A bottle of Castrol HMSO was secured there. The continuation of the strap in subsequent models could simply be because it's useful for securing any small fluid container.

I use the smaller one to hold an umbrella and the other for CD holder. Both fit great and looks clean.

 

Have seen the smaller one used with a fire extinguisher

 

Cold Snacks.
I have two little pouches one with oil and one with coolant

 

I had an XJ that stored a navigation CD in one of the holders.
It was just the case so you did not lose it since the disc is in the navigation unit.
