Hello,
I've been getting a CATS Fault on my dashboard. I have recently changed all 4 air struts and the compressor. I hooked up the code reader and the following came back. If anyone can advice as to what to do.
I took a quick look in the DTC Summaries explanation for this fault (see below) and it looks like the ASM believes there is short to ground in the path between ASM and the valve on your airspring(s). You are told what connector and pins to check below: CR89-4, 5, 7, 9. Fig. 5.3 of the MY04 Electrical Manual shows this be an ASM connector. Did you get this error immediately after airspring replacement? I'm assuming you replaced with Bilstein airsprings ( CATS compatible)?? What are the chances you damaged, twisted or otherwise did something with the airspring electrical connections when you replaced them recently? It is possible this problem could be caused by the ASM but knowing you recently worked on the airsprings and compressor they more likely have something to do with the problem.
It started a couple of months after I changed the last spring. I didn't change them all at once as they all went bad at different times. I changed the compressor just because I figured might as well so i wouldn't have to worry about this air suspension. Wrong!
The only other thing ive worked on is the alternator. Truthfully, I don't remember if it was already happening when the alternator was changed.
I do have the old air struts. Can I connect them 1 by one to see which one is the culprit?
Someone posted about an issue with the harness at the connection of the top of the spring. It was a broken wire. Cant remember who. They spliced it back up and was good to go.

I think the recent post Mark in Maine references was "C2304 - Air Spring Supply Circuit Fault" where EsRay and Don B. have a detailed dialogue tracing the problem to a poor electrical connection. You should study their discussion and also reference the troubleshooting sequence EsRay recommended.
Regarding troubleshooting by (electrically) substituting the old struts: If you do not have a DVM you trust to troubleshoot with (use procedure referenced above) I suppose you could substitute but realize the assumptions you are making if you do not get the expected results ( you assume the old strut is good, you assume the problem is in the new strut, you assume the problem is limited to one strut, etc.)
