Default Cigarette lighter issues

I have 3 cigarette lighters, and there is power in each socket. The lighters have never been used, and they do not work properly. Once pressed in, they all pop out immediately. They will work if held in, but that is very inconvenient. I looked at my local auto parts store, and of course Jag is not listed on the lighter applications. I did finally find a Ford one, and it works, but only in one of the rear sockets. In both of the others, it pops out immediately after being pressed in. Anyone have this issue or any suggestions?

Cheers!

Two of the four are not cigarette lighters, but electrical accessory outlets. The one in the front ashtray and one of the rear are cigarette lighters, the other one in the back isn't and neither is the one in the glove box.

I am not really sure how they are different, only that they are according to the owners manual.

My memory says the outlet on the left is the cigarette lighter and the one on the right is the power outlet. Check the owners manual to be sure.

Thanks - It's the one in the front (in the ashtray, which is a cigarette lighter) that I would like to get working.

Fairlane, in a way I hate doing this, but it works.
Look in the lighter socket and you will see two fingers at the bottom directly across from each other. Those work kind of like pinchers and pinch the lighter element when you push it in. The fingers are actually bi-metal pieces so when the lighter heats up they bend slightly 'til they release the element and it pops out. Some accessory power plugs push these fingers outward some and they don't hold the lighter anymore. Be sure the power is off or the battery disconnected, and tweak the fingers inward slightly with a small screwdriver. That will make them hold on to the lighter longer so it heats up properly.

Cheesy, but it works............

Thanks XJR Guy, that makes sense. Is it necessary to disconnect the battery? - There is no power to the outlet when the car isn't running

Cheers!
