I have a 2005 XJ8L (128k miles) and it has a leak of coolant somewhere on the rear upper passanger side (US) of the engine. What's interesting to me is that it leaks almost all the coolant while the engine is off. Needless to say, the "Low on coolant" warning shows up, so it is pretty much grounded until I get hat fixed. Its hard to see what it could be back, but it seems to be coming from a threated cover of a hose or something with a lot of play to it. I tried looking up diagrams online to see if I could match the location of it on my car, to no avail. Any idea what it could be?
Very very likely the hose under the intake manifold. I goes from the throttle body to a point on the front of the Vee. If broken, it will fill the Vee with water, which runs off the back of the engine. You must remove the intake manifold to replace it, which is its own chore.
Here's the hose:
The hose has a reducing adapter in it which is plastic, which is where mine failed, although the large-diameter section was ballooned quite badly and was not long for this world itself.
The replacement hose most widely available is a one-piece molding:
Here is the fitting at the front of the engine, looking forward:
I went through this in my cooling system overhaul, a thread linked in my signature, and you can look there for details about the manifold and getting it off.

That could very well, be it. We replaced the thermostat housing which had a crack on it and it fixed a leaks we saw. I guess we will go deeper. I'll keep this updated.
Thanks a lot!
Got the suggested hose that is one whole piece and found that fixing that exposed a radiator crack the previous owners tried patching up with BJ weld and tape(?). We replaced the radiator and it cools like a charms.
