Coolant Leak
Hello, I noticed that I have a coolant leak coming from the rear of the engine. Any idea of where it could be leaking from ? Is it easy to get to ? Is it a DIY or is a shop needed.
Thanks For The Help.

When I bought my 2nd S-Type, I bought it at ta place about 600km away, I was utterly amazed that I arrived back home without any coolant problems, because after I was home, the engine leaked coolant left right and centre - see:

I can only assume that your supercharged version is similar in regards of the possible coolant leak points (as I do not know the supercharged S-Type / that one is the missing piece in my collection). If the coolant leaks from the back I would assume that it leaks from that quite difficult to remove elbow, which has its home in the middle of the "valley" - see in my link above the picture just below the water-pump. My guess is that those 2 seals on the elbow are leaking, where the elbow goes into the engine block in the valley, so that the coolant leak is basically a well/fountain in the valley (between the left and the right bank) and from there it runs down at the back of the valley, i.e. the back of then engine...
If you can do it yourself or not, depends only on you and what you can do. I could do it, but I am in Australia.

Rear of the engine sounds like Valley Hose. That’s quite common unfortunately but you might be lucky and it could simply be the DCCV like in my instance. Anyway best of luck to you and here’s to hoping it’s something easy. Well over 20 coolant hoses all together on the STR if I’m not mistaken
Agree with Mclovin22 if it's at the back of the engine on any 4.2L SC engine it's usually the under SC coolant hose. Big job but common so many, many threads with pictures on how to do it.
A couple of searches will bring those threads to light.
Only you can answer if you can DIY the repair. It's long and hard but completely doable by any DIY guy. Don't get too scared plus you will have a great amount of knowledge once it's done! You can post to the list if you get stuck on something.
Now you have another problem? Your car is 17+ years old with how many miles? Again without car details you won't get good answers??
But the SC engine has a LOT of rubber hoses. At this point ALL hoses need changing. If not you will keep going back in to swap out this hose and that hose. You have a perfect opportunity with the under SC hose as the car will be apart so no duplicate labor.
Again consider replacing the DCCV as this is another almost 100% guaranteed failure. So just change it while everything is all apart.
Don't forget your coolant should also be changed and it's easy as it's all drained out anyway!
