Default Couple quirks on my 06....

Hey guys,

I've been noticing a purging sound at random times on my 06 xj8's suspension. Well it may not be random just wanted to know if these noises were normal on the air ride or not?

ALSO! I've had this incredibly annoying issue where my volume turns up or down just ever so slightly. It's probably not noticeable to most, but I'm incredibly particular about noise so it does somewhat bug me. I have nav, not sure if the issue would be related to this?

Thanks all

There is an option to sent volume at certain speeds. I know mine goes up at 70 and at 50. I don't remember where the menu is, but I set it at those speeds to increase when I'm speeding up and it lowers when slowing down. I believe it is a feature. I'll have to check tonight unless someone else knows what menu I'm referring to.

I know the air suspension will purge air from the system periodically. I hear mine do it when I turn the car off after driving somewhere. I'm by no means an expert in this area so will defer to the other experts. TB2004 nailed it on the sound question.

This should help.

Standard Radio:
Automatic Volume Control (AVC)
This maintains radio volume at a level
sufficient to overcome road noise as
vehicle speed increases or decreases. To
activate AVC, press and hold the volume
control knob until
AVC is displayed. To
deactivate AVC, momentarily press the
volume control knob again. The level of
AVC control can be adjusted by turning
the volume control knob whilst in
AVC ON

mode. When AVC is ON, manual
adjustment of volume will override the
AVC setting.

OR

Radio with Navigation touch screen:
Automatic Volume Control
This maintains radio volume at a level
sufficient to overcome road noise as
vehicle speed increases or decreases. To
activate AVC, press the
MENU button,
followed by the
VOLUME PRESET

button on the touch-screen. Once in the
volume preset screen, AVC level can be
adjusted (from OFF to 5) by repeatedly
pressing the
+ or buttons adjacent to
the AVC volume indicator.
When AVC is ON, manual adjustment of

volume will override the AVC setting.

It happens after shutdown, and seems to be when a longer run has completed rather than a tootle around town. Compressed air is exhausted to purge the water trap of water. This purging is necessary, or the trap would soon stop working and let water into the air system.

Thanks Fraser. I appreciate the explanation. And you're right about the long trip vs quick run around the block...I've only heard mine after the longer trips.
