Default Cruise control

Ok, I have tried several things and my Cruise control still doesn't work. I checked the fuse and replaced it, even though it looked fine. In my manual, it talks about a fault. Does anyone know how to clear the fault? Also today, I got I the car and had a light saying DSC not available and it stayed on for the entire day, every time I started the car and it stayed on while driving. Today, it's gone and everything is back to normal, except the Cruise control. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as you know this is all new to me. I'm not complaining, I LOVE the car, just would like the cruise to work. This is the 2004 XJ8 that I'm speaking of. Many thanks!!

Hi Kim,

It is possible that both your cruise control problem and the intermittent DSC warning lamp are due to a weak battery. Some owners have reported that their cruise control function returned after installing a new battery.

Both of the problems you describe should trigger stored Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), which can be read with a dealer-level scanning system or a third-party system capable of reading Jaguar proprietary codes, so it might be worth having the car checked for stored codes to help in your diagnosis.

I suspect that some of the random issues we have with these cars are due to a combination of low battery voltage while cranking the engine and corrosion on electrical connectors and ground points throughout the car.

If your 2004 model still has its original battery, you might want to have the voltage measured while cranking the engine to see how low the voltage sags.

Cheers,

Don

+2 on the battery. I had the DSC not available message until I replaced the battery. What happens is that the voltage drops when you crank the starter triggers the DSC message. I did use my OBD II code reader to clear the codes until I got a new battery.
