Default Cruise Not Available

Hi All,
Had no cruise since I bought the car, no warning lights, only when you tried to use it I got the No Cruise Available message, But when you start the engine the ACC switch on the lower dash flashes red for a second.
Then I replaced the front parking sensors, and while the bumper was off I looked at the ACC unit to investigate the problem. I noticed that one of the wires on the sensor was broken, so when I disconnected the plug, the pins inside had snapped and were corroded, so I started to pull the unit off the car to repair. I managed to remove the broken pins from inside the unit but I had to cut the plug off as I was unable to remove the snapped pins from inside the connector, I managed to connect the pins with a small connector and replaced the unit back on the car, then the big moment, I started the engine to find I had the orange light and the message that Cruise Not Available on display, but the ACC switch did not flash this time.
Before I did this I recall a stored code which pointed to the ACC unit being faulty, which I assume/hope was the broken wire and bad connections, my question is has anyone gone through the fault finding process, to find out the cause.
What are the components in the cruise control system?

On a positive note the front parking sensors are now working perfectly......

regards.

I have been plagued with this message every time I started my car since I bought it 6 months ago. Yesterday I removed the black cover from underneath the bumper and located the "radar unit" for the ACC on the driver side. I removed the plug from it (many multicolored wires) and sprayed the connection with electrical cleaner. I pushed the plug on and off several times before reconnecting it. I drove the car and guess what?... I now have cruise with no message!

If you go to the Handbook Download thread in this XJ forum and to post#21,follow the instructions for X350 downloads, you will find the Workshop Manual for a 2004 XJ.In the Powertrain section,at page 3517 there begins a description of the Speedcontrol system.Start there and you will be guided through the necessary info to diagnose your problem.(maybe!)

How old is your battery ?

I used to got Cruise not available ONLY first thing in the morning. Then after every subsequent start, I would not get the message. I changed the battery and I've never had it again

How old is who's battery? For me, mine was replaced in April 2013 with an OEM Jaguar. It is new and strong. I researched this problem high and low, trying every solution I could think of. I finally removed and cleaned this plug and so far, I have driven the car approx. 20 times without the message reappearing. The cruise finally works as well as the gap warning and parking sensors.

Hi Sarc,
I've had no battery problems, only since the reinstallation of the ACC the problem has appeared?

regards.
